


Inside the cabin of the Broadened Horizions |
Part of our project is a 30 ft demonstration vessel, The Broadened Horizons. The Broadened Horizons was custom built by Leaf Myczack and Cielo Sand using wood composite construction. Scrap wood and recycled materials were incorporated into the boat, reducing waste and creating a beautiful sailboat in the process. It was outfitted with a solar panel and wind generator, making it energy self-sufficient. The double masted Ketch was launched in 1989, in Saltillo TN. The Boat served as the primary patrol vessel for the Tennessee Riverkeeper Project, an environmental watchdog and clean water advocacy organization, for 15 years before retiring in 2005. It has now been commissioned as the Demonstration Vessel for the Sustainability Project.
The boat is open to the public for tours, and demonstrates many examples of more sustainable practices such as:
