Permaculture

Permaculture is a land and energy use system based on working with nature. Permaculture design principles can be applied to anything from gardens to home construction to community economics and much more.

I like to think of it as a methodalogy for sustianable living. The design principles are founded on three ethics.

Care of the Earth

Care of People

Distribution of Surplus

The Permaculture principles are where you get into more of the details and the thought proccess that go into a design. There are a lot of differnet ways to talk about the principles and there is no offifial body that say this is what they are. However, I would like to quote the principles from David Holmgren's (co-founder of Permaculture) book THE ESSENCE OF PERMACULTURE: PRINCIPALS AND PATHWAYS TO SUSTAINABILITY

  1. Observe and interact
  2. Catch and store energy
  3. Obtain a yeild
  4. Apply self-regulation and accept feedback
  5. Use and value renewable resources and services
  6. Produce no waste
  7. Design From Patterns to details
  8. Intergrate reather than Segregate
  9. Use small and slow solutions
  10. Use and value diversity
  11. Use edges and value the margin
  12. Creatively use and respond to change
